Custonaci, caves and marble
Perched on Mount Cofano, the Custonaci village stands out, known as the “International City of Marbles” due to the presence in its territory of the second marble basin in Europe with about 100 active quarries. Of great interest in this area are the Caves of Scurati, an ancient prehistoric settlement and speleological site. In particular, one of the caves was inhabited until the 1950s and belonged to the Mangiapane family, today it is an open-air museum where you can see, as in a journey into the past, how life went on inside this very unique village.
